Above is Rebecca J. Kessel our 2013 Scholarship Award winner along with her mother Susan Kessel. Next to Rebecca is the City of Treasure Island mayor Bob Minning,
and to the far left is Paul Shann representing the Treasure Island Art Guild.

Rebecca's art work is featured throughout this webpage.

7_The-Fur-Trade375.jpg For many years the Treasure Island Art Guild has donated funds to encourage young people to study art. The Scholarship started as a $200 award each year and has grown to a $1,500 award over the years. This is a way The Art Guild has of giving back to our community. The Art Guild received a donation in memory of Mrs. Barbara Hale an artist. Her daughter Laurie Heffern attended the luncheon. The Art Guild also received a very generous donation of Art Material in memory of Grace Porter who was a member. This material was sold in our Art Flee markets and helped build the Scholarship fund. We also raised funds through our art classes and workshops.

Our members had the opportunity to congratulate Rebecca during and after the Luncheon. She was joined by her mother Susan Kessel , (her father Douglas was unfortunately working).
Also in attendance was the City of Treasure Island mayor Bob Minning.

Rebecca is currently attending the Academy of Information Technology at Northeast High School.

Here are a few of Rebecca’s accomplishments:
* 2013 Rebecca was voted by her peers at school as the Most Artistic Female.
* 2012 Rebecca’s Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt Design was chosen, and sold at her school.
* 2011 Rebecca won first Place in the Regional Coastal America Ocean Art Contest.
* Rebecca volunteered at the Morean Arts Center and was an art teacher’s assistant for over 300 hours.

In August Rebecca is going on to study Computer Science and minoring in Visual Art as a freshman at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg.

The Art Guild was extremely pleased with our selection of the Award this year and know Rebecca will do well during her new academic adventure.

"Letter from Rebecca"

It is with the utmost gratitude and appreciation that I thank you for your generosity and support in the continuance of my future education. I am deeply honored to be a recipient of The Treasure Island Art Guild, Inc. Scholarship.

Through my experience in the Academy of Information Technology at Northeast High School, and numerous Visual Art courses, I have found my passions. Beginning August 9th 2013, I am proud to say that I will be majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Visual Art as a freshman attending Eckerd College. Here I know I will have the opportunity to work closely with the professors of my major as well as continue to improve my artistic skills. It is my goal to remain focused on and committed to my studies so that after graduating from Eckerd I will be able to secure an innovative career as a Computer Programmer as well as remain actively involved in the arts community.

I value your confidence in my success and willingness to contribute to my education. Your kindness will impact me greatly as I strive to accomplish each of my goals. Once again, I would like to express my thanks to you!

With much appreciation,

Rebecca J. Kessel
