ART GUILD GIVES SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
By Fred Wilder
On May 12 The Treasure Island Art Guild held its last meeting of the spring season.
It will start again in September. The main purpose of the meeting was to give the awards
to the winners of the May show and give out our yearly $1500.00 scholarship award.
The Art Guild has given this award for many years. It is funded through several
fundraisers we have during the year. Most of our artists participate in these one
way or the other. This is our way of giving back to the community. We are very proud of this.
This year scholarship award goes to Rowan Stanley. She attends Gibbs High School
and Pinellas County Center for the Arts. She holds a 4.0 grade point average.
Rowan is the daughter of John and Sheri Stanley of St. Petersburg. She has a
younger brother Jack and sister Lily.
She is currently majoring in Visual Arts at Pinellas County Center for the Arts.
Her studio art teacher is Yoko Nogami. Rowan says, “I have been trained and encouraged
to grow in my artistic abilities.”
Some of her achievements are, 2005 Best Of Show at the Mainsail Young at Art,
2009 Honorable Mention Scholastic Art and Writing, 2009 First Place Suncoast Camera
and Digital photography show and 2010 Honorable Mention at Pinellas County High School student art exhibition.
Rowan volunteers at the Gulfport Library, is a member of National Honors
Society, Rho Kappa, Future Business Leaders of America, Pinellas Multicultural
Advisory Committee and Gibbs Senior High School Gay and Straight Alliance.
She plans to attend The University of Southern Florida to study art history and become a museum curator.
All the members of The Art Guild wish her well and hopes she achieves her goals.
