THE ART GUILD SETS SAIL THIS YEAR

WITH A NEW PRESIDENT

by: Paul Shann
A very special welcome to our new Art Guild President Colleen Ward! As a relative newcomer to our Art Guild she has selected a seasoned member Pete Garino to be her Vice President. He will be a real asset to assist and guild her and the Art Guild knowing the traditions and history of the Guild.

Last year Colleen chaired the Scholarship Program and promoted the new web based system for students throughout Pinellas County to apply for the award using our website.

Colleen was also the Art Guild secretary last year and produced the first paper newsletter in color.

From her early beginnings with the Art Guild where she was shy to enter her first piece, till now where she wins ribbons & awards, it is a real transformation in a short period of time.

Colleen has show how art can be demonstrated in so many different ways. We are truly blessed to have such a talented person at the helm of our Art Guild. Welcome aboard Captain Colleen!

Membership Directory

New this year is our Art Guild directory. If you do not wish to have your phone number, address and/or e-mail listed in the Directory email: or call Colleen 343-0448. The first Directory will be a good opportunity to check if information is missing or outdated. After Memberships are renewed, January 1st, a new updated Directory will be published.

I am looking forward to a fun-filled year!

Colleen Ward, President

September 17th Demonstrator

Rolando Rodriguez will be our Demonstrator for September and will paint an oil portrait for us. Rolando is a graduate of Brooklyn College majoring in Art History, specifically High Renaissance and Ancient Greek. When he no longer could be just a spectator, he ventured into drawing, painting and sculpting. He teaches at the Sunshine Center and at Booker Creek Park (behind Edward G. White Hospital). Come join us September 17th at City Hall for coffee or a glass of wine and enjoy watching Rolando create a portrait before our very eyes!

Betty Frank and Arlene Kitchin, Program Committee

Wine & Cheese

We have a new treat this year. The Board agreed to offer wine & cheese at our Saturday monthly meetings.

Pat Marklin, our new Hospitality Chairman, and Bruce Kotchey, 4-time award winner last year, will be our hosts on Sept. 17th and invite everyone to enjoy the sophisticated new treat as we begin our 2011-2012 season. Don’t miss this great chance to meet old friends and catch up on all our summer news. Coffee will be served, as well.

Pat Marklin, Hospitality Chairman

FALL COLORS

By Mary Marsh

Members of the Art Guild of Treasure Island bring us their opening show at the TI Community Center through November 3, 2011.

PAT DAVIS offers four of her colorful acrylics, each with its own story: "To Have and To Hold," "Florida Snowbirds" and "Transportation Included." Pat's delightful "Mrs. Hippo" is sure to bring a smile when the viewer spots her red toenails and red-tipped eyelashes, as she prances down the red fashion runway.

BRUCE FALLENDER, award-winning abstract artist, brings us "Gala Gathering," in acrylic; "Jazz Jam," in watercolor; and "Flamenco Fantasy," in mixed media. Lastly, with "Patriotic Jubilation," the viewer is treated to fireworks painting the sky with splashes of red and blue ink.

JILL HALE demonstrates her eye for composition and color in her entries, which include one fresh watercolor, "Blossoms," and three acrylics: a lonely lighthouse in "Night Light" and an intriguing abstract in "Metallica.". In her whimsical "Fanta Sea" Jill creates a delicate, underwater coral sculpture.

Classic oil painter, DONALD SILVESTRI, gives us "Steps to Melk," a glowing landscape; "Morning After," a seascape, and "Hail To the Chiefs," the artist's cloud fantasy of Mt. Rushmore's Presidents. Don's "The Emperor's Koi" captures a serious group of five colorful Koi plotting some deep underwater intrigue.

PATRICIA VAN LEUVAN adds four brightly colored acrylics to this exhibit. Three landscapes: "Tropical Sunset" with dark palm trees against gold and blue, "Passage to Juneau" and "Pretty in Pink." In her portrait composition, "Blue Parrot," Pat captures exciting rhythm with great color.

Plan to see our show at the Community Center located on 106th Avenue, just east of Gulf Boulevard. Please call 547-4575 ext. 238 for hours of operation.
