TREASURE ISLAND ART GUILD (TI-AG)
DECEMBER 2010, ART GUILD SHOW RIBBON WINNERS
1st place BRUCE KOTCHEY "Yellow Bowl" acrylic
"When I started, I didn't know what the subjects would be. I put many layers down to get the effect I wanted. Free, short strokes gave it the oil appearance."
" The Lit light means the lighthouse was lit by the sun, and 'n Lightning is lightning from a thunderstorm rolling in behind it, and is a play on words for Enlightening."
The technique used is a grisaille which you will hear about later.
We are privileged to see one of Rosemary's portraits. She doesn't show them often and usually displays other subject matter. All of her exhibited art work shows a beautiful technique.
(in no particular order of merit)
SUSAN WALSH "Fish-a-ma-jig" watercolor
This work was inspired by Bruce Fallender's demonstration a few months ago. Susan tried a few projects at home using red, yellow and blue watercolor. It took her a month of experimentation and patience before the "fish" emerged, her imagination put in the background and fill-ins to complete this whimsical project.
"In Magical Palms, I was trying to take a subject often painted and say something different. I'm a "plein air" painter but enjoy pushing the color and interesting shapes."
This beautiful painting of a rose was done for Patricia McEntire's Rose Show in her home during December and January 2011. It was too large for the space allowed; so Vittoria entered this painting in our December show.
"I like it when the painting paints itself, all I do is let the feeling of the work come to life." The lighting and clothes on the line made Patricia feel like she was home. " Some paintings just give you the feeling that it will come out right."
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all of the entrants.
E. Patricia Harnedy, Chairman of Exhibitions.
