JANUARY 2012 Honors:

First Place:COASTLINE By Bruce Kotchey - Acrylic
First Place: COASTLINE By Bruce Kotchey - Acrylic

Critique from the judge !

This is a great painting with details in the proper order and perspectives handled correctly. The painting shows a great distance to the stormy horizon and the trees in the foreground were beautifully executed. Congratulations to our first place winner Bruce Kotchey for “Coastline”.

I was immediately attracted to this painting with the limited palate. It has great quality and I was pulled into this piece by the knowledgeable use of space and design. Second Place goes to Kathryn Vanasse for “The Corporate Man”. Congratulations Kathy.

Third Place: FROLICKING FLAMINGOS By Gerry Bourlon – Watercolor
Third Place: FROLICKING FLAMINGOS By Gerry Bourlon – Watercolor

Critique from the judge !

I really liked this piece. It is handled well and the gestures of the forms are true to life. The painting has a calm feeling about it but still has that WOW factor. Everything was handled well and it is a very attractive piece of work. 3rd place goes to Gerry Bourlon for “Frolicking Flamingos”

RACE IS ON By Arlene Kitchin - Acrylic
Honorable Mention: RACE IS ON By Arlene Kitchin - Acrylic

Critique from the judge !

The fluid motion of the crest in the water went along very nicely with the wind in the sails and as the title suggests, The Race Is On. Beautifully done Arlene.

EMERGING SEAHORSE By Bruce Fallender
Honorable Mention: EMERGING SEAHORSE By Bruce Fallender – Watercolor

Critique from the judge !

This Honorable Mention goes to another small painting. When I first approached this piece the colors seemed to burst off the paper and also I noticed it had a 3D effect and. Congrats to Bruce Fallender for “ Emerging Seahorse”

OLD COUNTRY ROSE By Colleen Ward - Mixed
Honorable Mention: OLD COUNTRY ROSE By Colleen Ward - Mixed

Critique from the judge !

Rarely do I use the term pretty when referring to a painting and discourage my students using the term also. Anyway, when I saw this small painting my thoughts went to the old movie titled “Pretty In Pink “. Have you noticed the Honorable Mentions have all gone to small paintings ? Well, not to upset the rhythm of the day, Congratulations to Colleen Ward for her pretty painting, “ OLD COUNTRY ROSE”

WILDFLOWER BOQUET By Rosemary Utzinger
